WASHINGTON, DC (Oct 17, 2008) USSoccerPlayers -- DC United remains in the hunt for the playoffs after a 2-1 win over New England Thursday night at RFK Stadium. This was New England's first game since losing midfielder Steve Ralston to a broken leg last weekend.

Revs' striker Taylor Twellman scored the 99th goal of his MLS career in the 58th minute to put United 1-0 up. That lead held for all of three minutes before Francis Doe equalized in the 61st and got the winner in the 80th.

"We felt we did OK," said Revolution coach Steve Nicol. "We just had to get the final shot and we would have been OK We nearly were two up in the second half and then we go up the other end and its 1-1 -- a bad defensive play and the second one the same. So, from where I'm standing we contributed to our own downfall."

DC needs specific results from most of the weekend schedule to make their game against Columbus next week a playoff decider. As it stands, they can finish with a maximum of 40 points. Real Salt Lake, Colorado, Dallas, Kansas City, and New York could end up with a better record than DC, with one of the Western Conference teams taking third and two of the others as the wildcards.

"I think some of the better soccer players changed the flow of the game and we dominated a lot," DC coach Tommy Soehn said. "Unfortunately not enough to get goals early, which would have opened it up, but we're creating chances again and it's different guys doing it."

New England needs Chicago to not win their two remaining games for the Revs to have a shot at moving from third to second. The Revs can finish with 46 points. Chicago currently has 43 with two games left, and the goal differential advantage +9 to -1.
